Counselling

Bradley Brown - Chairman

I was born and still live in North West London. I was a solicitor for 40 years until I retired in 1998. I have Crohn’s disease though this has been in remission since a major operation some 22 years ago. I became a Trustee of the National Association for Colitis and Crohns (NACC ) in the mid-1980s which I chaired for six years until  2004.  I also chair a bereavement counselling charity and am a  Trustee of the St James’s House Charity which supports people with mental health problem in training and getting into work primarily in Camden and Islington. What drives me on in my early seventies are my family, cooking, a wish to help others, the internet and my interest in French chansons of the 1920s and 30s - though not necessarily in that order.

Barbara Dale - Trustee

I am a psychotherapist and have worked within the public sector for 43 years, the last 25 at the Tavistock Clinic. My main focus at the Tavistock was as a trainer and clinical supervisor of trainee Systemic Psychotherapists, and as Organising Tutor responsible for the development and accreditation of courses from Introductory to Advanced Qualifying MSc level. I was also Vice Dean, and a member of the Professional Committee where I represented the Systemic Psychotherapy Group. My principal clinical interest has been the impact on a parent of severe physical illness and influence it has on their parenting. I have both taught and published in that area. I am a member of The Institute of Family Therapy where I have taught, supervised, served on their finance, training and clinical sub committee’s as well as serving three terms as a member of the Institute’s Council. Since my retirement in 2005 I have continued to provide consultation for professionals. My interests include course gardening, cooking and the immense pleasure of being a grandparent.

Di Coia - Trustee

I hold a BA in Psychology and have 15 years experience within the Advertising and Marketing Sector .Over the last nine years I have been the Marketing, Sponsorship and Event Manager for an agency based in Twickenham dealing with clients such as The Swatch Group, MSN and Veuve Clicquot and negotiating and managing sponsorships for Cowes Week, London Fashion Week and Stella Artois Tennis. I also spent eight years as an Advanced Teacher for the National Childbirth Trust which involved counselling training and dealing with counsellors on a regular basis. I live in West London with my partner Ronnie and have four children. Ronnie had cancer three years ago as have many of our friends so I have experienced first hand the effect it has on people's lives and how helpful cancer counselling can be. I am at present working as a volunteer one day a week for CCT.

Julian Nokes - Trustee

In 1995 I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Following sixteen weeks chemotherapy I have been in remission since October of that year. I am privileged now to be working with some former members of Cancer BACUP, an organization which I encountered at that time and which impressed me hugely with the excellent counselling service it provided to cancer patients. I believe passionately that for many of those diagnosed with cancer, professional counselling can be as necessary a part of the recovery process as the clinical treatment itself. Before retiring from banking in 2005 I worked, inter alia, in South Korea for the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) managing their joint-venture merchant bank. Prior to that I worked for international banks in England and overseas. I was born in Worcestershire and now live in London with my partner, who was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago. I have two sons and four grandchildren.

Paul Sweeney - Trustee

My early career was in airline operations and general management, working with a number of international airlines including Aer Lingus and KLM. I have an MBA from the London Business School and recently joined the senior management team of an internet auctioning company.
